This week I just have one new one, and it showed up rather unexpectedly in the mail (which is always the best way, in my opinion - nothing like a surprise book to make a day much better!). Thanks very much to Katie of Katie's Book Blog for my ARC of Torment by Lauren Kate.

Really looking forward to reading this! Although I might have to skim through Fallen again to get the details... it's been a while since I read it.

Before I get to the "in my mailbox" part of this post, I want to thank you guys for your support this weekend. It's been an intense few days. I think I am ready to get back to blogging, though.

Wanted by Sara Shepard. Yep, I've finally reached the conclusion to the series....or, you know, not, since she just announced that there will be four more books. I wonder how the series will continue...if it means that we don't find out who the killer is in book eight, I'm gonna be mad, since that may be the only reason I'm still reading them...

Paper Towns by John Green. I have heard so many great things about this book, I've enjoyed John's other books, and I recently fell in love with his and his brother's Youtube channel....so yeah, I'm pretty (extremely) excited to read Paper Towns.

As you may have noticed, I didn't even try to do an IMM with the books from NCTE/ALAN, but I have gotten a few other new books since then. The book links go to Goodreads.

Falling Under by Gwen Hayes. Thanks to Goodreads First Reads for sending me this one! It sounds delightfully dark and mysterious, and the cover is gorgeous.

From the library:

Numbers by Rachel Ward. I picked up the sequel to this one at NCTE but hadn't read the first one, so I decided to fix that. I love the cover on this one, it looks really awesome, but I have no idea what it's about. (Yeah, I'm judging a book by its cover. We all do it.)

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White. I have heard so many good things about this book and I'm excited to finally get the chance to read it!

For Review: 

Matched by Ally Condie. I'm so excited to read this one, I love dystopian novels. And the cover. Oh my goodness, the cover. I love the cover design, the green-dress-girl in a bubble...but the best part is that when you move it around in the light, it shimmers. Rainbow shimmers. *manic giggle* In all seriousness, though, I can't wait to read this one. Thank you, LibraryThing and Dutton Books!


Borrowed: 

I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore. Aliens and science fiction and action? Yes please. This one looks very awesome and I cannot wait to read it! Also, they're making a movie of it (staring Alex Pettyfer...eye candy!), which means I absolutely have to read the book first.

Firelight by Sophie Jordan. Dragons! I love dragons. Paranormal YA anymore is all vampires and werewolves and faeries. Don't get me wrong, I love faeries and werewolves and even well-done vampires, but I need a change, and j'adore dragons. Point of interest: my friend Tonya, from whom I borrowed Firelight, will be appearing on the blog soon with a guest review! Get excited.





Gift: 

Countdown by Deborah Wiles. I actually got this one a few weeks ago and forgot to mention it because I put it in a special place away from my Stack o' Books to Mention in IMM. Deborah Wiles came to my dad's YA Lit class a while ago and talked about writing and books and all sorts of awesome things, and I didn't get to visit as planned because of school. But my dad (because he is the awesomest dad in the universe) got me a copy of her book, signed to me, and hopefully I'll get the chance to meet her in November, so that shall be cool.

I have five new books this week. Well, "new" - none of them are actually mine, they all came from the library:

Agh, so it's a little blurry. As you may notice, this is the first time I've uploaded an actual photograph of the books I got, and in my defense, I took this picture with a webcam. Anyway, the books are:

-Fade by Lisa McMann. I read Wake back at the beginning of June and enjoyed it, so I'm looking forward to reading the sequel.

-The Maze Runner by James Dashner. I've heard so many great things about this book (including that it's dystopian), so I'm definitely excited to read this one!

-Killer by Sara Shepard. Yup, it's another Pretty Little Liars novel.

-Guardian of the Gate by Michelle Zink. I read (and reviewed) the first one, Prophecy of the Sisters, a little while ago and I'm excited for the sequel! Want to find out what comes next.

-Broadway Lights by Jen Calonita. This is the fifth(?) Secrets of My Hollywood Life book. It's been a while since I read the first four, but I heard there was a new one out so I thought I'd check it out. I'm really interested in film production, so if it's got to do with acting or film stuff...I'll read it.

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren where book bloggers share what books they got each week. My books this week didn't actually arrive in my mailbox, they're from the library, but here they are anyway:

Wicked by Sara Shepard. This is the fifth book in the Pretty Little Liars series, which (as you may know if you've followed my blog in the last few weeks) I've been reading recently. I actually finished this one earlier today, and my review should be up tomorrow.

Intertwined by Gena Showalter. I've seen this one around but never actually read it. Since the second book just came out, I figured maybe I should check it out. I have heard good things about it, especially for fantasy fans, so hopefully it will be good!

The Eternal Ones by Kirsten Miller. I don't know a whole lot about this one, but I know it's relatively new and I know I like the cover and I know the description is intriguing. Definitely can't wait to read it!

I just have one new book this week. Thanks very much Goodreads First Reads for a lovely review copy of John Belushi Is Dead by Kathy Charles.

This one looks really cool - it's about teenagers who find places in Hollywood where famous people died, I think - so I'm excited to read it. It actually goes on sale this Tuesday (as in two days from now), so if anyone else wants to check it out, you can do that soon.

And of course, I still have some other books to read from before that I haven't been able to get to because of schoolwork. But school starts this Wednesday - which means two things. One, I will have homework more regularly, so it may be more difficult to post often; two, I will not be able to procrastinate on homework as much, so I'll have to get it done in a timely manner and then I'll have a leftover time so I will be able to post more often.

It's a weird balance. It'll work out. I'll still be around and posting. And *fingers crossed* with any luck I'll have a new review up by the end of this week!

In My Mailbox

In My Mailbox is a meme hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren. I've been reading other people's IMM's for a long time and I was pretty excited for when I'd get to do one of my own. And today, I received books in the mail!

I got two books in the mail that I won in a contest on Elizabeth Scott's blog (it was very exciting. Thank you Elizabeth!!): an ARC of The Replacement and a hardcover copy of Only the Good Spy Young.

I was excited to read The Replacement from the first time I heard about it (on Maggie Stiefvater's blog, actually). It looks delightfully creepy and exciting and wonderful and I cannot wait to read it.

Also, the cover. It's like...the epitome of creepy, but it's awesome. And in person, it's even more awesome, because the cover is this really cool silvery color and it shimmers.

I confess to already having read Only the Good Spy Young. Actually, I already have a copy of it - I just got it for my birthday. So, it is very possible that I will be giving away my extra copy. (My dad, who teaches a graduate class on YA Lit, is trying to talk me into giving it to him for his classroom library, but we'll see.) BUT - it is an awesome book and I did receive a copy, so I'm going to talk about it for a minute.

Only the Good Spy Young is the fourth book in Ally Carter's Gallagher Girls series. It's got spies and cute boys and a mystery about a secret organization, and terrorists,  and all sorts of other super-awesome fun stuff like that. I will tell you that this is probably my favorite of the Gallagher Girls books so far (and also that you definitely have to read them in order...so go read the first one now, if you haven't!).

Also "in my mailbox" are the books that I'm reading for school, A Prayer for Owen Meany (which I'm finally almost finished with) and The Things They Carried (which is just going to get put off until I get to read some more fun books. Not that Owen Meany is horrible, but it's not exactly my cup of tea. I need some fun YA books).

I also have two library books on hand right now, just waiting for me to finish Owen Meany: The Necromancer by Michael Scott (book four of The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel), which I'm very excited about, and The Demon's Covenant by Sarah Rees Brennan (*squee of joy*). You'll hear more about those once I read them, I'm sure.
